Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Act 2 – Monoco’s Station Walkthrough

After defeating Dualliste in the Forgotten Battlefield, your next destination is Monoco’s Station. This area functions as a hub, connecting the western, southern, and eastern regions of the Continent. In this guide, you'll find a detailed walkthrough on how to collect all the collectibles along the way to Monoco’s Station, as well as those located within the station itself.

The Camp

Before heading to Monoco's Station, you'll return to camp after a scene called "Back at Camp." This is a perfect opportunity to strengthen your bonds with your companions. Talk to Esquie to increase his Relationship to Level 2, then chat with Sciel and Lune to raise their Relationship Levels to 1. You should also have Maelle write in Gustave's journal to progress that storyline, and don't forget to visit the Curator to upgrade your Weapons and Lumina levels.

When you're ready to continue, use the campfire and select "Go to sleep." You'll see one more scene where Verso's relationship with Maelle increases to Level 1.

The Continent

After waking up, you’re back on the Continent! Before heading straight to Monoco’s Station, which is actually dead straight ahead from your starting point, there are quite a few things we can discover here. So let’s explore first.

From your starting point, defeat the enemies ahead to get Verso Weapon - Cruleram. Turn right and head east to find a portal on the right side leading to the Stone Quarry. Follow the main path north up a hill and look for a small camp on the left with a Colour of Lumina. At the path's end, you'll encounter the Frost Évêque world boss, which you can choose to fight or avoid for now. I tried fighting it at this point, and it didn’t work out well.

Head back down the hill toward the beach area and kill the enemies. From here, you can swim to two different beaches.

The southern beach, decorated with wrecked ships and floating rocks above it, contains a Colour of Lumina at the small camp. Enter the Boat Graveyard portal to get Alicia’s Birthday Party Music Record. This is an upbeat song that could be played at your camp.

Head out from the portal and defeat the enemy group consisting of Abbest, Ramasseur, and Potier. This battle rewards you with Weapon - Lighterim (Lv11), Weapon - Ramasson (Lv11), and Weapon - Potierim (Lv11).

On the eastern beach, you'll find the Grosse Tète world boss. This boss is quite difficult to beat now, because of its massive health. Its attacks are actually easy to parry, but if you mess up just once, it can take you out instantly. I suggest just leave it for now.

Behind this boss is a portal to the Coastal Cave, and if you follow the path south, you'll discover crates containing Colour of Lumina.

Return to the northern entrance of the Forgotten Battlefield and head west. Follow the left wall to find a Colour of Lumina just beside a lamp post. Directly north of this, you can find another Colour of Lumina behind a trebuchet.

Next, get back to the lamp post and head west again, follow the left wall until you find Pecha, a Gestral Merchant selling Plunging Bob and French Bob, both haircuts for Sciel. There's also a portal to Painting Workshop II in front of him that you can check out.

Keep going west until you see some enemies to kill. After defeating them, head northeast towards the snowy area. Once you are on the snowy land, head east to find Strabami, a Gestral Merchant near large pots. He sells Lune Haircut - French Bob and Record - Lost Voice.

Directly south of his position, there are a couple of large green trees with a Lost Gestral beneath them. After talking with him, head directly east to get a Colour of Lumina.

That’s everything you can collect along the way. Now, it’s time to head into Monoco’s Station! Just make your way toward the snowy mountain slope to reach it.

Monoco's Station

Welcome to the Snowpiercer-vibe, Monoco’s Station! Once you are in the portal, follow the path until you find Expedition Flag: Ice Corridor. Continue through the icy cave until you reach an open area and a station building on your right.

As you enter the station, you'll find the Expedition Flag: Monoco's Station ahead. Look for a train on the left and go behind it, following the path to the end for Chroma x2,180. Continue further into the station for a scene, followed by your first boss fight.

Boss: Monoco

This battle serves more as an introduction than an actual boss fight. Monoco isn't too difficult, but has a unique ability to transform into various Nevrons and use their attacks.

Key Attacks:

  • Staff swipe: A single forward melee attack
  • Double staff attack: Two consecutive staff swings
  • Relentless combo: Monoco transforms into a Chalier and performs a 6-hit combo (horizontal slash, three overhead slams with a pause between the second and third, ending with another horizontal slash)

Focus on dodging or countering his attacks while steadily depleting his health bar. The Chalier combo is his most dangerous attack, so be ready to dodge or counter it. Defeating him grants you Polished Chroma Catalyst x3.

After defeating Monoco, a cutscene will play where the cute little Noco comes and warns of an approaching Nevron. Before heading out, turn around and head towards the end of the platform to get a Colour of Lumina.

Next, head towards and past the Expedition Flag, and another cutscene will trigger, followed by another boss fight.

Boss: Stalact

Again, this is not an actual boss fight, but serves as an introduction instead. This fight introduces Gradient Attacks.

Key Attacks:

  • 4-hit combo: The boss runs forward, performs two headbutt attacks with its horn, then two slam attacks with each arm
  • Earthquake: Raises arms and slams the ground three times, sending damaging shockwaves (jump to avoid and counter)

Defeating the Stalact will earn you a Polished Chroma Catalyst.

Monoco Joins

You'll get a few more cutscenes, and Monoco will join your party. The game will prompt you to undertake a brief battle tutorial for him. Monoco is unique compared to other characters. Instead of using a skill tree, you unlock skills by defeating different enemy types with Monoco in your active party. He starts with the Chalier attack (from his boss fight) and a new Stalact attack.

During the tutorial, you'll learn about Monoco's special mechanic, the Bestial Wheel. This wheel rotates clockwise as Monoco uses attacks.

The tutorial starts the Bestial Wheel with Heavy. Monoco starts with Chalier Combo and Stalact Punches attacks. You'll notice that Stalact Punches have increased damage when used with the Heavy Mask active.

The number with an arrow next to the AP cost shows how many masks will turn around the Bestial Wheel when the ability is used. Try using Stalact Punch to move the Bestial Wheel to activate Caster Mask. If you defeat the Pèlerin during this tutorial, Monoco will get a quite useful healing skill.

Before Leaving the Station

After Monoco's tutorial, it’s time to explore more in the station, as it is now filled with new NPCs you can interact with.

First, visit the Grandis Shop by entering the station and speaking to the Grandis on the left of the door. Many items are locked with a "Complete a Quest" requirement. He'll offer your first quest: find Eternal Ice from the Frozen Hearts region, which you should keep in mind for later gameplay.

Next, speak with the Grandis Fashionist beside the right train to participate in poetry quiz as Lune, Sciel, and Maelle. Select the correct answers three times to earn Lune Outfit - Pure, Sciel Outfit - Pure, and Maelle Outfit - Pure. You need to switch the active character to the girls to trigger the quiz.

Lune's Answers:

  • "Winter winds will whisper, the ending of the tale."
  • "Death the artist's final stroke, completing every life."
  • "Its echoes fade to stillness, our secrets follow after."

Maelle's Answers:

  • "While shadows fade to silence, gone beyond our sight."
  • "Death untangles threads, revealing what's begun."
  • "Eternity then cradles us, a promise to appease."

Sciel's Answers:

  • "It meets the sea's embrace, where sorrow turns to air."
  • "And death the final chapter, where we shed our tears."
  • "Its light will softly fade, where weary skies lie."

After getting all the new costumes, head towards the back of the station, and there will be a new path, this is the eastern exit. If you follow the new path, immediately look left after crossing the railway, and you will discover Journal - Expedition 65. Speak with the Grateful Grandis right beside the journal to get a Recoat.

Now, head towards the nearest portal to get out from the eastern side. You can go to your camp and talk to Sastro to get a new Paint Break ability (if you have found four Lost Gestrals). This ability can destroy Paint Spikes, those shining blue hard crystals, for more treasures!

Now that everything is completed here, the next step is to go to the Old Lumiere!
